Takapuna’s Big Spring Programme

The spring meeting of the Takapuna Jockey Club is to be held on the club's course on Saturday and Monday, No- ; vember 26 and 28. A fine programme ; has been drawn up, and it is expected that large entries will be received on closing dayf on Friday of next week, November 4. On the opening day the principal event is the Alison Cup, a handicap carrying with it £7OO in stake money. The distance of the race is one mile, three furlongs; and 40 yards. Then there is the open sprint, the Cheltenham Handicap of £450, six furlongs. The two-year-olds are liberally catered for in the Cambria Handicap, of £4OO, five furlongs, a race won by some highclass youngsters in the past. The Borough Handicap, of £ 400, seven furlongs, also caters for a good class of horse. Then there is the “hack classic,” the Takapuna Plate, worth £7OO, entries for which closed some time ago. All the best eligible horses in commission figure among the nominations. Other first day events are the -Melrose Maiden Stakes, of £250 seven furlongs; Tiri Highweight Handicap, of £275, one mile three furlongs and 40 yards, and Ponui Handicap, of £275, nine furlongs, with special conditions. The second day’s card is as equally attractive, the following events being drawn up:—St. Andrew’s Handicap, of £6OO, nine furlongs; Cautley Handicap, of £4OO, six furlongs; Ngataringa Handicap, of £4OO, seven furlongs; Rakino Handicap, of £4OO, five furlongs (for two-year-olds); Vauxhall Handicap, of £250, seven furlongs; Kawau Highweight Handicap; Stanley Handicap, of £250, seven furlongs, and Pupuke Hack Handicap, of £250, nine furlongs.
