OTOROHANGA SCHOOL NEW CLASSROOMS The chairman of the Otorohanga District High School Committee stated at the monthly meeting on Tuesday that he had waited on the Auckland Education Board with regard to the erection of new classrooms to replace the old school. The members of the board seemed to know all about the condition of the old school and were unanimously of the opinion that the Otorohanga case was one of the most urgent. It was resolved to write to the member for the district, Mr. J. C. Rolleston, asking him to do whatever he could, and also to request the Prime Minister to stop at Otorohanga on his first trip Xorth to enable the committee to place the facts of the case before him. OTAHUHU BOROUGH PROGRESS OF WORKS It was announced at the Otahuhu Borough Council meeting last night that a continuous telephone service would be established from November 1. A. Cummings complained of the dangerous nature of the level-crossing at Mangere Station. It was resolved to forward the complaint to the Minister of Railways. The Auckland City Council is to be asked to lend the' r dog ranger to Otahuhu. to rid the district of the stray dog ifuisance. Owners are to be warned of the impending raid. In response to a claim by Mrs. P. Jenkins it was decided to pay her 50s in compensation for goods destroyed during disinfection operations. The council also voted a sum of £2 5s to members of the fire brigade for services rendered in connection with the fire in the council's garage. The finance committee reported that the balance of the drainage loan was £I,BBO, while it would take £2,050 to complete the work. The committee is to make the necessary arrangements. Roads were classified as follows: First class, to carry 10 tons: Great South, Station, Mangere and Walmsley Pwoads. Third class, to carry six tons: Panmnre Road and Kaka Street. Fourth class, to carry four tons: Luke, Princes, High, Moa and Wing Streets, Avenue, Fairburn, Huia and Saleyards Roads. Fifth class, all other roads in the borough.

GOOD CHURCH WORKERS FAREWELL AT MANUREWA The Rev. T. H. Roseveare, moderator for the district, presided at a well-at-tended gathering of members and friends of the Manure wa Presbyterian Church, arranged by members of tht Ladies’ Guild, for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr. and Airs. Youngson and family, who are leaving tht district to take up their residence in Auckland. The guests, who have resided in the district for over six yean, have proved themselves ardent church workers. Air. Xoungson is senior elder, clerk and treasurer of the church, while Mm Youngson is an active worker in the guild, and holds the office of vice-pre-sident. Aliss D. Youngson is the organist at the church, and Miss Mattie Youngson acts as secretary of the Sun-day-school and also the girls’ guild. Air. W. H. Carroll, district mifsioner, presented Air. and Airs. Youngson, on behalf of the congregation of the church, with a pyrwx cassarok daintily mounted. He eulogised the good work which had been accomplished by the recipients, and wished the family* every success in the future. Air. Crombie, one of the foundation members of the local church, presented Aliss D. Youngson with a piece o: pyrex ware, in appreciation of the many services rendered by the recipient. Ariss Mattie Youngson received » pretty tortoise-shell manicure set, accompanied with the best of wishes, from her associates. Air. AVall, secretary of the church. Air. AlcCallum, representing the managers, and Air. H. Weir, superintendent of the Sunday-school, also spoke, eacn commending the guests for the unstinted labour devoted to the church The Rev. T. H.
