DREDGE HAPAI TO DOCK.—The Auckland Harbour Board’s dredge Hapa is to go into Calliope Dock on Monday to commence refitting in connection willi her annual overhaul and survey. SYDNEY-FIJI CARGO SERVICE . The local office of the Union Company has been advised that the Waiotapu will 'eave Sydney oh November 1 for £iji, taking through cargo for Tonga and Samoa ior transhipment to the Tofua at. Suva. MESOPOTAMIA SAI LlNG.— Spedding, Limited, advises that the tramp steamer Mesopotamia, which has been discharging Java sugar at Chelsea, leaves Auckland at 6 p.m. to-day for Newcastle for bunkers and orders. WAITEMATA LEAVES SAN FRANCISCO. —Cabled advice has been received by the Union Company that the Waitemata cleared San Francisco at G. 30 a.m. on Tuesday for Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney. She is due at Auckland on November 18. TOFUA DELAYED. —The Union Company has been advised by cable that tae Island passenger steamer Tofua did not leave Suva until 8.30 a.m. to-day for Auckland, consequently she is not expected to arrive here before Tuesday morning next. VERONICA THIS AFTERNOON. — According to a further radio report received from PI.M.S. Veronica, the sloop is expected to arrive at Auckland at three o’clock this afternon. She will berth alongside H.M.S. Laburnum at the sheerlegs wharf. The Veronica, which has been on an extended cruise to the Pacific Islands, left Fiji last Saturday on the return trip. PORT DARWIN TO LOAD. —The C. and D. Line advises that the steamer Port Darwin leaves Port Kembla to-day for Bluff, where she is due next Thursday to commence loading for London. The vessel will next proceed to Lyttelton, thence Gisborne, Auckland, Wellington and Napier to complete. The Port Darwin is expected at this port on November 14 and is scheduled to sail finally from Napier on November 25 for London via Panama.
MATAROA’S PASSENGERS. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s Mataroa, which is to leave Auckland early tomorrow morning for Southampton and London, via Panama, will take the following passengers:—First Saloon: Mr. W. Caldwell, Miss E. Combridge, Miss E. E. Hemington, MiSs J. Horne, Mr. G. A. Hutchinson, Mrs. E. Meeson, Mr. B. C. McArtney, Dr. M. P. McSweeney, Miss C. S. Wallace, Miss A. L. Wallace, Miss I. G. Wood, Mr. A. Ferrano; 74 third class. ORDERS FOR MOTOR-SHIPS. The Commonwealth and Dominion Line lias placed an order with Swan, Hunter and Wigharn, Ltd., Wallsend-on-Tyne, for two motor-ships similar to the Port Huon and Port Gisborne, which were completed this year by the Wallsend firm. These vessels have a carrying capacity of 11,350 tons and are 475 ft long. The order for the engines for the new vessels has not yet been placed. With these two new vessels the Commonwealth and Dominion Line will have seven refrigerated motorships completed in the last two years. ROTORUA’S ITINERARY. —An alteration in the itinerary of the liner Rotorua is announced by the local office of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The vessel is due at Auckland to-night .rom Gisborne, and will berth at the Queen’s Wharf at 7 a.m. to-morrow to lift further Homeward cargo. She leaves here next Wednesday afternoon for Napier, thence Wellington, to complete loading, .and is scheduled to clear W oiling con finally on November 10 for Southampton and London, via Panama. The Union Company, agents for the Orient Line, advises the following movements of steamers: — The Ormana, from Sydney, was due at London yesterday. The Orsova, from Sydney, is due at Colombo on November 2, and at London on November 24. The Orvieto will leave Sydney on October 29 for London. ULIMAROA FOR AUCKLAND.—The Huddart-Parker passenger steamer Ulimaroa was to leave Sydney at noon today for Auckland, where she is due next Tuesday morning. HINEMOA'S MOVEMENTS. —Due at Niue Island to-day from Auckland, Spedding, Limited, advises that the Government steamer Hinemoa proceeds next to Apia, Samoa, thence Auckland, where she is due about November 20. On November 23 the Hinemoa leaves Auckland for .Norfolk Island. WAI PAH I DUE TUESDAY NEXT.— En route from the Cook Islands, the Union Company's fruit steamer Waipahi is expected to arrive at Auckland next Tuesday. After discharge at this port, the vessel proceeds to Suva to load for Auckland. KAWATIRI REPORTS.—According to a radio message received by the Union Company, the collier Kawatiri is expected to arrive in the stream at Auckland to-night from Newcastle. To-mor-row morning the vessel will berth at the Western Wharf to unload her coal cargo, after which she will undergo her annual overhaul and survey at this port. PAKEHA COMPLETING. —To complete loading for Home the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the steamer Pakeha arrived at Wellington at 7 o’clock this morning from Wanganui and sails next Monday for London, via the Cape Horn route. KIA ORA’S PROGRAMME.—Due at Nelson to-morrow from Bluff, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advises that the steamer Kia Ora later proceeds to New Plymouth, thence Wellington and Auckland, to fill up. She is due here on November 7 and is scheduled to sail finally from this port on November 10 for Halifax, London and West of England ports, via Panama. PORT HARDY TO LOAD.—Due at Auckland on November 10 from London, the C. and D. Line’s steamer Port Hardy proceeds to "Wellington to complete her discharge, after which she will load in the South, and then returns to Auckland on December 11 for final loading. She is expected to clear this port on December 14 for New York. Boston, Halifax, and London, via Panama. PIAKO DAMAGED. —Damage was done 55ft. above the water-line of the freighter Piako, which visited Auckland at the beginning of this year, when a huge sea struck the vessel while she was crossing the Indian Ocean, reports the Sydney “Daily Telegraph.” Crashing on the starboard side of the freighter the sea overwhelmed the lower decks, navigation bridge, and a small bridge above, known as “monkey island.” On this bridge is installed the ship’s standard compass, and it was here that heavy wooden rails and side panelling were smashed and carried away by the force of the impact. The glass windows of the chart room and navigation room below were shattered, and fragments of glass scored holes in the woodwork. A quartermaster at the wheel, and an officer in the chart room were assailed by broken glass and deluge of water, but they were not seriously hurt. Finding no ready outlet from the port side of the navigation bridge, the water smashed some panelling, and portion of the same wave ripped out the gear of one of the lifeboats. MAHENO SAILS FOR SYDNEY.— With, passengers, mails, and cargo, the union Company s intercolonial passenger steamer Maheno left Auckland shortly after eleven o’clock this morning.
