Modern Girl in Sport
INTER-HOUSE MOVEMENT BIG DISPLAY TO-MORROW To the strains of the Port Auckland Band* 400 neatly uniformed ijirls, radiant with health and fit - nass, will take part in general iports, displays of physical exercises and country dancing at Slandford Park to-morrow, when ;he Auckland Girls’ Sports’ Association stages its annual demonstration. Last season the display presented a kaliedoscopic and animated scene, and again this year the hard training being undertaken by the girls spells another contest equally successful as the last. Valuable trophies and cups give the girls a deal of incentive, and the teams of Browne Bros, and Geddes and the Presbyterian Bible Class Union are perhaps two of the keenest teams, both anxious to keep their lead and retain the “Herald” Cup, which they hold rom last year. An added attraction will be the competition for two new cups, one from A. Kohn, Ltd., to be held by the team scoring most points in the team events, and the second from Mr. Shearer, to be similarly awarded for single events. The popular event of the day will no doubt be the grand parade of the teams, which will be followed by massed exercises to music under the direction of the physical director of the Y.W.C.A. The inter-House Girls’ Sports’ Association also stages spectacular displays annually, which .ire run on similar lines, but they cater for girls from soft goods houses only, while the A.G.S.A. include among their ranks Sir . 3 from any trade, club, or organisation. To-morrow 21 teams will be out. on the field.
