BLIND FATHER
PETITION TO PARLIAMENT FOUR CHILDREN TO KEEP (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The grant of a compassionate allowance by Parliament is sought by James Egan, of Auckland, in a petition presented by Mr. J. A. Lee, Auckland East, to-day. Egan states that he is a widower, with four children under the age of 12 years. He was formerly a. farmer, but last year he became blind, and having no property or other means, was forced to depend on the charity of relatives and friends for the maintenance of himself and his children. About eight months ago he was admitted to the Institute for the Blind, in order to acquire training in some occupation, and receives 16s a week, out of which he pays 10s a week toward the maintenance of his children.
