PRINCE EDWARD

“LADY WINDERMERE’S FAN” One of the most difficult feats attempted in the history of motion pictures has been most successfully accomplished. That is the transfer of “Lady Windermere’s Fan" to the screen, which Ernest Lubitscli has brilliantly done for Warner Bros. The film version of this Oscar Wilde play which will be shown at the Prince Edward Theatre is visible proof that the wit and sparkling epigrams of Wilde may be translated into action, if this master director is at the helm. “Lady Windermere’s Fan” has. above everything else, the perfect cast. It is thanks to the skill of Lubitscli. the genius of the screen, that Irene Rich blossoms into a Mrs. Erlynne, so superbly beautiful and so delightfully a sophisticated siren that the memory of her as a deserted wife fades into oblivion. Miss Rich has surpassed anything she has ever done, successful though her career has been, with the characterisation of Mrs. Erlynne. Ronald Colman, who through the courtesy of Samuel Goldwyn. appears as Lord Darlington, is more than ever the ardent, irresistible wooer of fair ladies. Colman’s appeal to the weaker sex continues as strong as it did since his debut in “The White Sister.”
