PRINCE POINTER FAILS
THE display of Prince Pointer, one of the New Zealand Cup candidates, in the Oamaru Cup was decidedly disheartening to his supporters in the big November heat. When the handicaps appeared it was generally conceded that the Logan Pointer horse was set a hard task from his 4.23 mark, but there were some enthusiasts who kept Mills’s charge on their side. After his splendid and unexpected victory at Wellington he gained more friends, and when it was found he was tackling the opposition at Oamaru, where he had a few seconds the better of the handicap deal, something good was expected. The Prince failed to finish on and this will discount his prospects in the eyes of the public for the Cup. If that was the best he couud do it was certainly not very encouraging.
