HUNDREDS ARE SAVED Great Work by Merchant Ships

EXTRAORDINARILY conflicting reports are to hand of the loss of life through the sinking of the Italian liner Principessa Mafalda, which foundered on Tuesday, 130 miles south-east of Bahia, Brazil. The ship carried 1,258 passengers, and the latest message from Montevideo says that only 34 were missing last night. Other estimates range from 68 to 536. The ship struck a hulk, and her boilers exploded. By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright.
