PANAMA PACIFIC LINE. —The International Mercantile Marine Company has placed an order with the Newport News ►shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company for a second ship for its 1 anama Pacific Dine intercoastal service. The new vessel will be identical with the California, which was recently completed at Newport News for this service, and will have the same type of propulsion—turbo-electric drive. All her auxiliaries, as in the California, will t>e electric. It is expected that the new ship will be ready for delivery in the Hiring of 1929. The California will take her place in the New York-San .Francisco service in January next, with the Mongolia aed Manchuria. With its new tonnage, tiie Panama Pacific Dine will have the two largest ships built in the United States. I: ch will register about 22,000 tons gross, €(m<l will exceed 20,000 tons displacement. Tl.eir contract speed is to be IS knots, and they will reduce the present length of the voyage between New York and Californian 3' »rts by two days. Each will have a capacity for 800 passengers and 8,000 <pons of freight. *
