TE AROHA’S CARNIVAL

FUNCTION CONCLUDED The success of Te Aroha’s carnival week .in bringing about a happier relationship between town and country was emphasised by Air. A. D. Wallace president of the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce, at the concluding function of the carnival. Great interest was shown by the public in the “most popular girl”'competition, which resulted: Miss Doris Gower, 924; Miss Rita McCullay, 789; Miss Freda Bliss, 436. A feature of the carnival was the success of the pioneers’ reui #.m. The oldest pioneer was Mr. J. Devev. whose age is now 91 years. Another interesting personality was Mr. G. Mace, whose father was the first person to And gold at Te Aroha, in 1880. The Te Aroha Municipal Band will benefit to the extent of £BO, and the Plunket Society by £36 from the carnival funds.
