SHOWMAN FINED
DRUNK IN CHARGE OF CAR BOY KNOCKED DOWN ■ Press Association. BLENHEIM, Wednesday. As a sequel to an accident in Maxwell Road, Blenheim, when a lad named Albert Jenkins, who was riding a cycle, was knocked down by a motorcar driven by Claude Arthur Dalmain, the latter appeared before Mr. T. E. Maunsell, S.M., to answer a charge of drunkenness while in charge of a car. Defendant was a travelling showman and had a side-show at the Marlborough Show. The boy Jenkins was badly injured on the knee, and was taken to hospital. The magistrate said that he had to consider the general public. The defendant was admittedly addicted to drink and therefore a menace to public safety so long as he drove car. Dalmain was fined £ls with costs, and his licence suspended for three months.
