GRAND
“THE FRONTIERSMAN” TO-MORROW Frank Hagney, at one time well known in Australian sporting circles, has an important supporting role in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayers latest Tim McCoy production, “The Frontiersman,” coming to the Grand Theatre tomorrow. Hagney plays Chief White Snake, a truculent Creek Indian, and his battle with the agile and skilful McCoy is a veritable screen epic. “The Frontiersman” tells of the early pioneering days, when Red Indians were warlike and powerful, and danger lurked on every hand. Beautiful Claire Windsor and Louise Lorraine supply the love interest, and over 2,000 extras —Red Indians from the Arapahoe reservation, and troopers who impersonate the frontier militia—lend colour and dash to an intriguing production which is founded on historical fact.
Heavy winter rains in California partially wrecked the elaborate houseboat set used in La Plante’s starring- vehicle “Beware of Widows,” a Universal-Jewel. The set was reconstructed and the picture completed after a week’s delay. Wesley Ruggles directed with a supporting cast including Bryant Washburn, Walter Hiers, Tully Marshall, Paulette Duval, Catherine Carver, Heinie Conklin and Otto Hoffman.
