HISLOP

FAMOUS BRITISH TENOR TO SING HERE NEXT WEEK

TRIUMPHANT TOUR

Joseph Hislop, the famous British tenor (he was born in Edinburgh), who comes to Auckland next month, is in magnificent voice, and his Australian tour has been nothing short of a series of triumphs. His electrifying initial efforts in

Sydney and Melbourne roused the vast audiences to an enthusiasm rarely manifested, and each succeeding concert has but served to reveal new phases of his wonderful art. In the works of Schubert and Brahms he ha? proved as convincing as in the nine melodramatic outbursts of Italian opera, while his singing of modern English songs created a veritable furore. His splendid voice, his easy production, his comprehensive musicianship, his intimate knowledge of every vooal method and device, together with his ability to use that knowledge in the service of art and expression—all these great qualifications combine to make him the wonderful artist he undoubtedly is. He sings with finished artistry and convincing power. With Hislop is Alberto Sciarretti, an excellent accompanist and a highly skilful solo pianist, who has also won high praise from the musical critics. Hislop’s Auckland season will commence on Thursday, November 3.
