AUCKLAND JUSTICES
ANNUAL MEETING TRIBUTE TO MR. POYNTON Appreciation of the work carried out by Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., and the assistance he had given at all times to justices was expressed at the annual meeting of the Auckland Justices of the Peace Association, presided over by Mr. A. J. Stratford last evening. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to the magistrate in view of his serious illness. The president’s report stated the membership at the beginning of the year was 586, increasing to 607 at the end of the year. Receipts during the year amounted to £495, and expenditure £328. The number of subscriptions outstanding, viz. 137, was adversely commented upon, and it was resolved that the question be left in the hands of the incoming committee. It was resolved that a letter of appreciation be sen-t to Mr. Justice Stringer, patron of the association, who will shortly retire from the Bench. A motion of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr. R. Marsack, a member of the executive of the association. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. A. Rosser; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. F. J. H. Ellisdon, A. Oldham and T. Michaels; council, Messrs. J. 11. Fray, .T. W. Bissett, A. D. Seabrook, F. J. Marks, D. Donaldson and M. J. Bennett; registrar, Mr. C. Wheeler; auditor, Mr. E. C. Phillips; delegates to the Federal Council, Messrs. Fray, Wheeler and Rosser.
