A SURE WINNER

THE Auckland Trotting Club paid out to owners the magnificent sum of £B,OOO in prize money at its recent fixture, but it also paid out to the Government in taxation £6,906. Even the unfortunate owners who pay dearly in the way of maintenance and other expenses for their sport have a slice taken from their winnings by the administration, £4OO to nothing being the odds in the Government favour. The totalisator tax amounted to £2.223, dividend tax £4,022, amusement tax £213 and privilege tax £6B. The Government is a sure winner all the time, no matter whether clubs have a successful fixture or net.
