MATATA TENNIS CLUB’S FINE RECORD

(From Our Own Correspondent) MAT AT A, Tuesday. At the 31st annual meeting of the Matata Tennis Club, the president, Mr. F. J. Burt, congratulated the club on winning all its matches during the past season, including the Holton Gee Challenge Shield and the Lees Gee competitions. Congratulations were also due to those members of the club, Messrs. Karepe and Minapara, Messrs. P. and E. Howell, who won the Marumaru Cup; G. Creeke, the West Coast Plate championship; and J. Semmens, the boys’ champonship, at the Wanganui tournament. Officers elected were: Patron, Mr. F. F. Hockly, M.P.; president, Mr. F. J. Burt; vice-presidents, Messrs. & Burt, G. Creeke, H. Anderson, R. Wilson, P. Campbell, H. Burt, and E. Brown; secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. Cundle; committee, Messrs. Creeke, W. Ansell, R. Wilson, P. Campbell, H. Robinson, and P. Howell. ROTOWARO CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent) HUNTLY, Tuesday. The Rotowaro Tennis Club held its official opening on Monday. The president. Mr. T. Rodgers, referred to the fact that Rotowaro had entered for the Lower Waikato Association’s junior competition, and he wished the team success in its matches. Mrs. Yelland drove the first ball, and the courts were declared open for the season. TE RAHU CLUB (From Our Own Correspondent) TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. The annual opening of the Te Rahu Tennis Club was held on Saturday last under favourable weather conditions, a very representative gatlvering being present. Messrs. Flay and Bowler, on behalf of the club, welcomed the visitors and players, and wished the club a most successful season. Miss H. Flay then hit the first ball over the net, and the courts were declared open for play.
