REPAIRS NEEDED FOR MANGERE BRIDGE
ONEHUNGA’S QUOTA The Manukau County Council in a letter to the Onehunga Borough Council has asked for £242, being 25 per cent, of the cost of repairing Mangerc Bridge, parts of which it is said are crumbling away. According to an agreement reached when the bridge was built, Manukau pays 60 per cent, of the maintenance charges, Onehunga 25 and Auckland 15 per cent. The sum of £525 is required for immediate repairs to the bridge, and £442 for the prevention of further disintegration of the approaches. The Mayor, Mr. W. C. Coldicutt, said that proposed expenditure would only result in a patchwork job. The bridge was in a very unsound condition and a good south-west gale would probably submerge the road at the approaches. He suggested postponing the work until next year and then making a permanent job of it. It was agreed to refer the question to the council in committee.
