Lloyd’s annual return shows that, the record amount of 30,000,000 tons of shipping v. as afloat in June last. Oi this amount 4,250,000 tons was in motor-ships. An additional 2,000,000 tons were under construction. New plans were laid down last year for 490 vessels, aggregating 1,832,000 tons, the highest amount since 1920, of which 66 per cent, was to be built in Britain. —A. and N.Z.-Sun.
