HELPING THE SICK
HOSPITAL AUXILIARY SUBSCRIPTIONS NEEDED So much desperate hardship exists among Auckland’s sick poor that the £BOO raised by the Hospital Auxiliary’s street collection might be spent before Christmas. MRS. ALFRED KIDD, president of the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary made that statement at a meeting held in the Town Hall concert chamber yesterday. The Alayoress, Airs. A. D. Campbell, who presided, expressed appreciation of the action of the Auckland Hospital Patients and Families’ Fund in handing over to the auxiliary its share of the collection, about £2OO.
A letter from the secretary of the Hospital Patients and Families’ Fund stated that from December 31 the society would cease to exist, the executive being convinced that after 17 years of happy service the work should be left to the capable management of the auxiliary, thus avoiding overlapping.
Mrs. C. E. Maguire, lion, secretary, said branches had been formed at Newmarket, Mount Eden, Avondale and Onehunga, the last-named having taken charge of the Auckland Infirmary. Aloney -was urgently needed to continue the work of the auxiliary, and annual subscriptions were eagerly sought.
The chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board, Mr. W. Wallace, appealed for subscriptions for the auxiliary, and Dr. C. E. Maguire, medical superintendent, expressed appreciation of its efforts to give ease to patients.
