KOKIRI’S SUCCESS

FIRST RACE OF SEASON It is something of an honour to be able to say that your boat has won the first yachting race of the season. Mr. T. Fookes is to be congratulated on the good performance put up by Kokiri in winning the Richmond Cruising Club’s sweepstake race to Arkle’s Bay last Saturday. Even though the event did not signal the official opening of the 1927-28 season the fixture was a race nevertheless, and a good one at that. The six competitors, Kokiri, Sun, Leveret, Matariki, Mowai and Rita all looked trim and smart in their new paint, and presented a fine sight running down harbour. In the passage several boats were possibilities, but on the beat to weather there was only one in it, Kokiri finishing 40m 30s ahead of the second boat and winning the handicap with .|m 30s to spare.
