SHREWD CRIMINAL IGNORES PROBATION

GAOLZD ON THREE CHARGES “This man is one of the shrewdest criminals in Auckland," said the probation officer, when Francis Jocelyn Fletcher, aged 30, appeared at the Police Court to-day. Fletcher came up for sentence on two false pretence charges, and another one of failing to comply with the terms of his release on probation. The probation officer, Mr. Campbell, said that accused was placed on probation at the end of 1925 for five years. During the past few months he had entirely ignored his probation terms, and last week attempted to leave New Zealand under an assumed name. “He’s a menace to the community," said Mr. Campbell. Fletcher was sentenced to cumulative terms of six months’ imprisonment on each of the false pretence charges, and for breach of probation to an additional three months.
