No Concession Yet
WEALTH OF DEAD SEA GREAT MINERAL STORE By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Monday. It is understood that no decision has been reached in regard to Dead Sea mineral concessions. Four groups are tendering. Earlier reports said that a subsidiary company of the recentlyformed Imperial Chemical Industries, Limited, of which Sir Alfred Mond is chairman, had secured a concession for the reclaiming of the mineral resources in the Dead Sea. Expert examiners, including the geologist of the Palestine Government, have estimated the quantity of salts deposited in the Dead Sea as follows: Potassium chloride, 2,000,000,000 metric tons; magnesium bromide, 980,000,000 tons; sodium chloride (common salt), 11,900,000,000 tons; magnesium chloride, 22,000,000,000 tons; calcium chloride, 6,000,000,000 tons. —A. and N.Z.
A cablegram from London on August 7 stated: Some of the treasures of the Dead Sea, comprising potash, magnesium, chloride and other minerals, of an estimated value of £240,000,000,000, are shortly to be exploited. According to the "Sunday Times” it is understood that the Colonial Office, in conjunction with the Government of Palestine, is on the point of granting Imperial Chemicals, Limited, and possibly others, a concession to tap the long-neglected store which the Sultan Abdul Hamid during his long reign refused to grant.
