WITH heavy rain falling throughout the Waikato district last night and for part of the morning, the prospects for the annual race meeting of the Waikato Hunt at Cambridge to-day did not appear too bright. However, before the first event was scheduled to commence the weather had cleared and on a sandy course, which was little affected by the rain, good racing was available.

Prince Lupin’s Easy Win Sea Comet £64s, Wiltshire £644 and prince Lupin £467, were the best hacked of a field of seven in the Maiden Hunters’ Steeplechase. Prince Lupin and Wiltshire were the early leaders t nd ran neck and neck over most of the journey until nearly home. Wiltshire charged a fence, throwing his rider, leaving Prince Lupin to carry nn to win by the best part of a furlong from Nabob. With King Abbey tailing. King Fame baulking a fence, -and Sea Comet running off, Wiltshire, who was remounted by a spectator, C. hong, had little difficulty in finishing in third place, some distance behind the first two horses. Bracken Abbey’s Surprise Flitter £854, Creation £833 and Atapai £663 were the best fancied in the Bardowie Handicap. Master Clement, Bracken Abbey and Rarakau were the first to show out. Bracken Abbey soon took charge and had a good lead front Lord Abbey, Some Lady and Master Clements as they turned for home. Major Abbey came to light with a fast dash, but failed to sustain his run, leaving Bracken Abbey to run home a w inner by threequarters of a length from Lord Abbey, with Some Lady, close up, third. Time, 3.18. Winner trained by J. F. Tutchen, Frankton. A Popular Win Nine contested the Hunters’ Hurdle Race Handicap. Pouri £1,016, being selected as the most likely to return a dividend. Mangani £829. Lady Faye £557 and Te Tama £513 also had numerous admirers. Town Hall, Te Tama. Mashoor and Mangani led as named over the first jump from a walkup start, but passing the stand Mangani was leading from Mashoor and Te Tama. Mangani was still the pilot along the back, followed by Te Tama, Mashoor. Pouri and Temperature. Lady Faye having lost her rider. Entering the straight Pouri assumed command from Mangani, Temperature, Raiti Hiki and Mashoor, and going on cleared the last fence well to win by one and ahalf lengths from Mangani, who finished a neck in front of Temperature. PRESIDENT OF FEILDING CLUB Press Association. WELLINGTON, Sunday. Mr. B. N. Sandilands, president of tho Feilding Jockey Club, has been appointed stipendiary steward to the New Zealand Racing Conference, filling the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. J. McMahon. He will commence duties on November 1.
