Over Half Million for Main Highways

AUCKLAND APPROPRIATIONS
(THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. Last year £550,000 was appropriated for the construction, reconstruction, and improvement of main highways throughout New Zealand. This year the sum of £600,000 is proposed in the Public < Works Estimates. 4 LTHOUGH, as in past years, there are to be a number of free grants, the majority of votes to the various districts are to be given as subsidies, mostly on the basis of £ for £. In special instances subsidies as large as £5 for £1 are to be given. The proposed appropriations for the Auckland Province and contiguous districts, together with the amount expended of last year’s vote, are as follow: No. 1 HIGHWAY DISTRICT (AUCKLAND NORTH). Voted.
