NOTES A relayed description of the reception to Mr. L. C. Amery, Secretary of State for the Dominions, will be broadcast from 3LO to-night. Several similar relays are on the programme for the coming week. A very interesting broadcast receiving set is on display at Messrs. Howie’s, Ltd*., in Customs Street. This is the “Silver Ghost,” built by the GoldenLeutz Company, which was the first to manufacture totally shielded sets. The R.F. valves are in separate shielded containers, each measuring approximately 12in long, llin high and 16in deep. There are four R.F. valves, the detector and four stages of audio frequency amplification, employing impedance coupling. Provision is made for separate B batteries to be used to secure a more critical adjustment of each stage. Tuning can be carried out by means of separate Vernier condensers or all may ge gauged for single control operation. A small fixed condenser is included in the aerial circuit to secure selectivity. The set can be tuned from 35 to 3,600 metres by means of five sets of interchangeable coils. The total weight of the apparatus, which is six feet long, is 1401 b.
