TRIED TO ROB TILL FOR THREEPENCE
MAORI BOY'S OFFENCE Needing threepence to go to the pictures a Maori lad tried to rob the till of a shop in Victoria Street. When the shopkeeper surprised him the boy threw the scales at her and caught her by the arm. The lad, who is 16 years of age, and a pupil of a secondary school, was charged at the Children’s Court today. It was stated that the boy had given his parents, at Te Kuiti, a great deal of trouble. Mr. E. Page, S.M.: Is it true that you were behind the till?—I didn't take any money. “You wanted threepence?”—“Yes.” “JJid you throw the scales?” —"No, 1 was going to.” The lad was committed to the care of the superintendent.
