WOMAN SHOPLIFTER FINED TEN POUNDS
STOLE TWO DRESSES NO NAME SUPPRESSION Hilda Bryant, a married woman aged 32, who appeared at the Police Court to-day in a semi-col-lapsed state, pleaded guilty to two shop-lifting charges. She was charged with stealing two dresses, valued at £3 3s, from a city shop. Senior-Sergeant McCarthy said that she had been seen hiding a dress under her overcoat. While being questioned in the shop’s office, she was found to have two dresses in her possession. Mr. Goulding, who appeared for accused, said she was a married woman whose husband was in a good position. ”It is one of those extraordinary cases in which a woman yields to sudden temptation,” said counsel. He asked that her name be suppressed. When counsel suggested probation, the senior-sergeant said she had already been on probation for a similar offence. She was fined £lO, the magistrate refusing to suppress her name.
