SKY RABBITS

(Written for Sunbeams by A. M. I.) Long ago, Dawn Lady, the sky at night was dark except when my Lady Moon walked across it in her own proud and glittering way. But one night she met with an accident, which, although not actually serious, injured her pride because it caused her to appear in an undignified situation. Being a haughty princess she always held her head very high, and on this occasion she tripped an dfell down a rabbit warren. Her indignation was so great that she refused to walk acroos the sky again until every burrow had a light placed in it. The Blue Sky bunnies (lovely little rogues with tails as white and fluffy as powder puffs) immediately promised to do as she asked, and ever since then they have lighted their lamps as soon as the sun has set so that my Lady Moon has no fear of tripping over the dark holes. And that is what you see from the earth at night. I had it myself from Tiptoe, the Pixie, who had it from Airs. Winkie, the wisest and most reliable of all the Sky Babbits and own cousin to Johnny Longears, plain brown rabbit of anywhere.
