PAINTING COMPETITION
The competition for painting the picture of ”The Egyptian Vase” brought forth some splendid entries from Sunbeams, and so varied and attractive were the majority that the Dawn Lady’s task in selecting the best effort was a very interesting one. The prize will be divided between Birdie Hepburn (aged 13) and Myrtle McCormick (aged 9). Birdie Hepburn’s entry is a striking one with a vivid Eastern effect, while Myrtle McCormick has forwarded a delicate piece of work in pastel tones, the vase changing colour in the fire. Michael Hutt has painted a colourful sky and the flames licking round the vase are most realistic. David Collingwood, the first Sunbeam, has forwarded a cleverly executed piece of work which is a great credit to a boy of seven. He has carefully read the story and his picture is correct in every detail. First Equal: Birdie Hepburn, Bayswater (aged 13) and Myrtle McCormick, Pukekohe (aged 9). Highly Commended: Michael Ilutt, Birkenhead, aged 15, and David Collingwood, Wanganui, aged 7 (equal); Doris Brown, Epsom, aged 13; Joyce Ludlow, Ponsonby, aged 13; Isabel Davis, Epsom, aged 13; K.
