Sacred Heart Boxing Tourney
COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIPS HIGH STANDARD ATTAINED The standard of the boxing: compared more than favourably with some of the association’s own contests and somo of the bouts were as good as those at the New Zealand championships, said the president of the Northern Boxing Association, Mr. E. A. Craig, at the annual championships of the Sacred Heart College last evening. The director of the college, Brother Borgia, said that credit was due to the excellent training of Messrs. Eugene Donovan and H. Hickey, and also thanked the numerous donors of trophies. He spoke of the splendid way in which Mr. Frank Burns conducted the tights, and in not having to caution one of the boys during the whole evening. A medal presented by Brother Borgia for the most scientific boxer was won by R. Parker. A special bout was staged between two very small boys, T. Kawe and M. Kiely. There was nothing to choose between them after three rounds. The referee ordered an extra round and gave the decision as a draw. Results are as follow: Under 5 stone. —P. SheehaM beat P. Babricius. - Under 5 stone 41b. —W. Bailey beat R. Bailey. Under 6 stone. —Semi-final: A. Sevi beat J. Loughman; G. Drysdale beat B. Cassidy. Final: Sevi won from Drysdale by ’default, the latter having sprained his thumb in his previous fight. Under 7 stone 71b.—N. Fitzjohn beat H. Clarke. . . , Under 8 stone. —J. Jamieson beat J. Dobbin. . , _ _ Under 8 stone 81b. —Semi-final: R. Parker beat D. Rounds; E. Punch beat A, Muir. Final: Parker beat Punch. Under 10 stone. —Semi-final: D. Barker beat M. Howe. Final: J. % Garvey beat L Under 10 stone 7lb.—J. Turner beat C. Redwood. _ . ~3 Under 11 stone 4lb.— VV. Hassen beat P. Hura.
