Final League Match

DEVONPORT v. PONSONBY To-Morrow’s Programme FS final League game of the 1927 season will be staged at Carlaw Park to-morrow when a special challenge match will be played between Ponsonby and Devonport. In addition to this match, an Old Timers’ game will be played, and a programme of athletic events will be staged. The “gate” will go to the unemployed relief funds.

TYEVONPORT and Ponsonby have met this season and both times the ground Was in a very sodden state. The many arguments heard as to how these two teams would fare on a dry day have been brought to a finality by Shore issuing a challenge to the “Ponies.” This was readily accepted by Ponsonby, and on present indication a dry ground is assured and a good fast game should be the result, as both teams are confident and have been training for the event. Ponsonby has always been considered a dry day team, and as it plays the open game, it certainly had not many opportunities this season fo show its reliability, but on the other hand Shore is a versatile team which can adapt itself to any conditions. Tl>e Devonportonians were unlucky in several of their games this season. On this season’s play Shore looks to have the best chance, as it has won most matches this season. Devonport also has its team intact, while Ponsonby has several on the injured list and one or two of its most prominent players have signified their intention of hanging up their gear.
