FIRST YACHT RACE OF 1927-28 SEASON
RICHMOND CLUB EVENT A sweep-stake race for centre-board yachts will be held to-morrow under the auspices of the Richmond Cruising Club. The race will start off the Ponsonby Wharf at 2.30 p.m. under the threeflag system. This is the first race of the 1927-28 yachting season. In the event of the wind being “in,” the destination will be Islington Bay,
but should the wind be “off the land,” the boats will proceed to Arkle’s Bay. The Islington Bay course is from starting line direct to the bay, keeping channel side of the Sandspit beacon and Bean Rock lighthouse, and finishing between launch wharf and the western end of the bay. Following are the entries and handicaps:— Islington Bay.—Kokiri, scr.; Mdwai, 9min; Wild Wave, Matariki, 12min; Leverette, 18min; Sun, 20min; Rita, 30min. Arkle’s Bay.—Kokiri, scr.; Mowai, 4min; Wild Wave, 9min; Matariki, 15min; Leverette, IGmin; Sun, 18min; Rita, 25min. The officials in charge of the racing will be: Starter, Mr. J. Longbottom: Hag steward, Mr. L. Dennis; judge and timekeeper, Mr. T. L. Thompson. RICHMOND CRUISING CLUB LEASE OF SITE RENEWED
An Order *-in-Council issued recently has granted the renewal of the Rich-
monel Cruising Club’s lease of its site for a further 14 years at a nominal rental.
The club has already been in occupation of the site at Sloan’s Bay, Herne Bay, for 14 years. Satisfaction has been expressed with the terms under which the renewal has been granted.
