MAORI CRIMINAL GETS MORE GAOL
BURGLARY AND THEFT
ATTEMPT TO BURN CAR
TJARRY DAVIS, aged 24, a Maori with two aliases, added another chapter to his criminal history today.
Davis was charged at the Police Court with stealing a leather bag and contents valued at £29 10s; with breaking and entering the shop of Richard Horn. 589 Manukau Road, and stealing goods valued at £6 7a 6d. He was also charged with converting a motor-car to his own use, and damaging it to the extent of £4. He pleaded guilty to all charges. Chief-Detective Cummings said that accused had taken the car in Auckland and driven to Helensville. There he stole the bag, and thinking he was being traced attempted to burn the car. “He is a thief and has »a criminal history,” said Mr. Cummings. For theft he was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. ' For conversion of the car three months, and for damaging the car two months. On the remaining charge he was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
