GROCERS’ HOURS

WHEN SHOULD THEY CLOSE?

DELIVERY PROBLEMS Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, To-day. The interpretation of clauses in the General Grocers’ Award was argued to-day before Mr. P. La wry, S.M.. who reserved his decision. The legal debate arose out of charges against James B. Herriott and Hugh J. Herriott, that on September 7, being the occupiers of a grocer’s shop within the city, they failed to close at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday. The Inspector of Awards said that he stopped the grocer’s cart. The driver had been delivering goods after 12.30 p.m., and the award specified that 12.30 p.m. was the hour for closing the shop, and the inspector maintained that the cart was a part of the shop for the purposes of the award.
