CROSSING MISHAP

TRAIN AND MOTOR COLLIDE

Yesterday afternoon a motor-van driven by Mr. A. Carter, and a train met in collision at the Beach Road level crossing. The right-hand rear wheel of the van was smashed, but otherwise no damage was done. Kye-witnesses stale that Mr. Carter was over the crossing and stopped to speak to some one. Suddenly the van began to move backwards and was struck by a train which was moving slowly from the passenger platforms toward the shunting yards. Mr. Carter was not injured.
