A HOME FOR £175
INTERESTING ENGLISH IDEAS
In our day of high rents and expensive homes, it will be of interest to know how things are accomplished in England. When one can get a five or six-roomed house for £175, one is inclined to wish England was but a step from Auckland.
A remarkable position is disclosed by a list of advertisements culled from an English newspaper. Wooden houses of every description, single and double-storeyed, appointed in modern
manner, may be obtained at prices ranging from £175 to the most expensive at £750. There are brick houses too, which, for £5 deposit and 24s a week as rent, may be had for £6OO. Both leasehold and freehold properties are on the market, the latter being slightly more expensive. According to the number of houses sold it would appear that the method adopted, as explained, is decidedly popular. The photograph depicts the style of house which may be procured for £175, and with it a free fire insurance policy. Prospective home builders in Auckland may now look for the day when such houses will be put on the market here.
