NORTH SHORE EXPANSION
TAKAPUNA PROGRESS
The objects of the North Shore Expansion League were explained to a meeting of the Takapuna Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association last evening. Mr. J. F. Colegrove, vice-presi-dent of the association, presided. The aims of the league were set forth by Messrs. T. Walsh and J. Williamson and the meeting cordially endorsed the movement.
Several speakers strongly condemned the spirit that had seized on many Takapuna people, and the “stinking fish” policy that some of the local men had adopted. It was contended that apart from the turmoil that Takapuna had been thrown into by the “bus regulations,” which forced a conflict on transport matters, the borough was in every other way much better off than it had ever been. The new transport was working smoothly and residents of Milford were able to reach their homes 25 minutes after leaving the city. That the borough had little to complain of, except “growing pains,” was evidenced by the fact that in 11 years the population had grown from 934 to just on 6,000, which showed the borough’s great natural advantages as a residential area.
