By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 10.3 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The Palf -mo correspondent of the “Daily News’* reports that inside a huge iron cage the Assize Court, guarded by scores of carabineers. sat to try 153 Sicilian brigands, headed by the notorious old Ferrarello, with his private gang of 50, and the remnants of other gangs. The prisoners include a doctor, ail engineer, two priests and seven women, including the aged Queen of Gangi. who is the mother of five of the prisoners. The Andaloro brigands ruled the interior for 50 years, Ferrarello disputing for the chieftainship with Palazzolo, until a jealous brother-in-law knifed and murdered Palazzolo. The clean-up was due to the energy of the new Fascist prefect, who is determined to re-establish a reign of law. He captured the ou fit after a four months' ciege. Sixty lawyers have been engaged for the defence, and a three months* trial is anticipated.—A. and N.Z.
