CHORAL SOCIETY
TO-MORROW’S CONCERT
As is the custom of the Auckland Choral Society, every endeavour has been made to secure the best talent available for the presentation by the Society on Thursday night of Mascagni’s opera, “Cavalleria Rusticana,” and Weber’s “Mass in G.”
The part of Santuzza in the opera will be taken by Miss Etta Field. It is one offering fine opportunities for dramatic singing, and a role which should suit her to perfection. Miss Phyllis Hazell, the Sydney contralto, who was first heard in Auckland several years ago, when she came ver to sing for
all the North Island male choirs, will be heard in the mezzo and contralto roles of Lola and Lucia. In Mr. Hubert Carter, who is now reputed to be singing; at the top of his form, an excellent Turiddu should be heard. Mr. Carter has recently sung this roie in Southern centres, his work coming in for high praise. The part of Alfio, the teamster, will be taken by Mr. Frank Sutherland, whose very useful bass-baritone should suit him for the role. In Weber’s “Mass in G.” a bright and very tuneful -stork. Miss Alma MeGruer, a very promising young Auckland singer, will sing the principal soprano role. With orchestra and chorus well versed by Mr. Colin Muston a bright and very enjoyable entertainment seems i assured.
