“THE FLAG LIEUTENANT”
AT NEW REGENT ON FRIDAY When Astra National, the British producers, acquired the rights to make “The Flag they found themselves with a naval story and the job of getting correct atmosphere. So they approached the Lords of the Admiralty in the hopes of building this romance of the British Navy in authentic surroundings. My lords, however, are not easily persuaded. The picture was not an advertisement for the navy, and so they looked upon it with a very cold eve indeed. They carefully perused the story, and finally gave their consent. . Once this was obtained, the way of Maurice Elvey, the director, became easy, for all the facilities for making the picture on board ship were given the whole-hearted support of the Navy Department. Battleships, destroyers, marines, seamen, seaplanes and other arms of the service were used, and the result is one of the most realistic and thrill-packed pictures that have reached the screen. This great romance of the navy will be screened at the New Regent Theatre on Friday. Henry Edwards and Dorothy Seacombe are the leading plajeis.
The screen’s first feminine comedy team of Marie Dressier and Polly Moran makes its debut in the new Metro - Goldwyn-Mayer hilarious comedy romance of Irish family life, • The Callahans and the Murphys.” Miss Dressier, who returns to the screen after an absence of several years, plays the role of “Mrs. Callahan,” and Miss Moran has the part of the sharptongued “Mrs. Murphy.” Sally O’Neill plays the role of “Ellen Callahan.” and the cast includes Lawrence Gray. Frank Currier, Gertrude Olmsted, Eddie Oribbon. Turner Savage and Jackie Coombs. George Hill directed. <■
