LATE COMMERCIAL

EASIER TONE IN CATTLE MARKET

WESTFIELD VALUES BIG SHEEP OFFERING Generally, the tone of the market was easier in the beef sections at Westfield to-day. Especially was this the case in regard to cows and heifers. Bidding lacked spirit. A not over-heavy yarding of beef came forward to a restricted attendance of buyers. The quality of the offering was fair, though in the female section few straight-out lines of extra choice wellfinished animals were seen. W. Voeper. of Cambridge, was respon■iHe for the best offering of the day. Several trucks of well-finished steers on account of this grazier made from £ll 17s 6d to £l3 10s. Top priee of £l3 12s i>d was secured for a pen of two choice prune, not exceptionally heavy beasts, on account of W. W. McLaughlin. Compared with last week the market opened slightly easier, but firmed toward tho close. Thus, though the market h;ul an easier tone, there was little quotable change in regard to actual average prices. Heavy prime ox beef made from £l- - to £l3 12s 6d: medium prime, £lO 10s to £ll 17s tid; light and smaller framed. £8 12s 6d to £lO 7s 6d; small and unfinished from £7 15s. Several lines of cows were passed m and bidding, considering the fact that there was only a normal yarding, was spiritless. Straight-out lines of choice well-finished beef sorts were well in minority and dairy strains, apart from actual beef breeds, were largely in evidence. For the choicest lots of young animals there was a firm demand but for mediocre and unfinished sorts the. market was erratic and generally easier. Choice well-finished big-framed heifers made to £lO. Extra heavy old cows made to £9; smaller prime young cows and heifers made from £6 5s to £8 ss; small prime cows and heifers made from £5 10s to £6; other unfinished and small dairy sorts were not wanted, and brought considerably easier values.
