SPORTS MOTOR-CYCLE CLUB Sports club members met on Sunday at the Harp of Erin and proceeded to Mangere Speedway on Saturday, Octogymkhana practice. The club will hold a hill climb at Mangere Spedway on Saturday, October 29. GYMKHANA AT EPSOM A gymkhana and motor-cycle show will be held at Epsom Show Grounds on Saturday, November 5. Provision has been made for the exhibition of all the popular makes of machines, and an interesting display should result. A comprehensive motor-cycle sports programme will be submitted. Prizes are offered for the best decorated motor-cycle and best fancy dressed rider, and other items will be a motorcycle football match for the Artillery Cup, long jump, steeplechase, and an event for lady riders. A really good afternoon’s sport is promised, which may be extended in' the evening if the necessary searchlights are procurable. SALES IN SEPTEMBER Particulars of new motor-cycles sold in New Zealand during the month of September show that sales have been particularly good. B.S.A 53 Douglas 47 Triumph 40 A.J.S 38 Indian 37 Harley 29 Raleigh 20 Ariel 22 Norton 15 New Hudson .... 14 Other makes .... 57 Total .. .. ; . 372 NORTH SHORE CLUB The first annual meeting of the North Shore Motor-Cvcle Club was held during the week; the club, which began with 11 members now has 32. The club has issued a very handsome badge and the income for the year had been quite satisfactory, while a number of firms and friends had presented trophies. TJnf'ortu'nately the club has not been able to secure the use of a suitable ground away from houses for trials. Mr. E. R. Chivers, hon. secretary, intimated that owing to business reasons he could not continue to give attention to the club affairs; his resignation was accepted with regret. Officers for this season are:—President, Mr. T. Walsh; vice-presidents, Messrs. Blayney and Chivers; hon. secretary, Mr. H. Martin; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. Myers; committee, Messrs. Edwards, Hine, Hutchins, Price and Blomfield. ♦ * * CHAMPIONSHIPS AT FOXTON The middle-weight motor-cycle championship will be held at Foxton on October 24.
This year the championship will be run with a rolling start, that is, all
machines will be in motion when they cross the starting-line. It is understood that the following men will compete this year: W. Herbert (Indian). R. Ranby (Indian). C. Howe (0.E.C.). B. Bray (Douglas). H. Moller (Norton). As all these men are experienced riders, interesting races are expected. ** . • A cable has been received from Messrs. Cathrick and Castley, the B.S.A. world tourists, stating that they have arrived at Panama, and sailed for Valparaiso on October 7, in an endeavour to cross the Andes, en route for Buenos Aires.
