Champtaloup, is hardpressed to cope with the work. At the last meeting of the council it was decided to appoint an assistant for him, thus enabling the present rate of progress to be maintained, and in fact improve the service to members. Actually the appointment will not be made until near Easter, as the service officer has no time to cope with any extension until the summer touring season is over. The council further decided that the new assistant be styled the service officer, and that on the change being effected, Mr. R. E. Champtaloup’s designation be “touring maanger.” * * * Members are reminded of the social to be held on Thursday evening in Scots Hall in celebration of the gaining of the 5,000 membership mark. Lady members are invited, and an illustrated lecture on “The Growth of Motoring in Auckland” will be delivered by Dr. G. de Clive Lowe (the first hon. secretary of the A.A.A.). It is the intention of the association to purchase a light truck to be used for sign posting work. An improved method of sign posting is to be adopted with clearer directions and embodying more minute details. The association is going to experiment with the use of red “cat’s eye” warnng signs, and a quantity have been ordered from England, where they are used extensively by the automobile associations. * >0 * It was decided to approach the local bodies concerned pointing out that the shoulders of the concreting on the Great North Road have not been built up properly in some cases, and in others are not being maintained in an effective manner. If allowed to deteriorate this may become the cause of danger. RECORDS AT OLYMPIA ATTENDANCE AND SALES EXPORT TRADE QUESTION British Wireless —Press Assn.—Copyright RUGBY, Sunday. A new record in motor show attendances was set up at Olympia yesterday. The official figures were 45,940. It was the third day of the show- One firm received an order for £175,000 worth of cars, and another firm an order worth £IOO,OOO. When the series of motor shows, of which the present one is the first, comes to an end, the Central Association of Motor Manufacturers and Traders will, it is stated in official circles, meet representatives of the export credit section of the Overseas Trade Department. They will discuss possible developments of the system of credits in connection with the export motor trade. it is explained that a good deal of trade in South America and other countries is at present done on the instalment system. With few exceptions, it is stated, the manufacturers of motor-cars do not make such terms with dealers as will enable them to give the long credit which the instalment system demands- The object of the conference will be to consider the requirements of the industry, so that, if any modifications are necessary in the existing regulations, particularly with regard to floating credits, they can be made. —A. and N.Z.
