A CORNER FOR THE OWNER WHO WANTS TO PUT SMALL JOBS RIGHT HIMSELF HINTS BY “HEADLIGHT” The generator on a 1926 Pk>rd coupe did not stay together even after it had been tightened. The screws, which held the generator frame parts, loosened, even though the threads were in good condition and lock washers had been used. The trouble had occurred several times when the owner of the car decided to have it investigated. The generator had never failed to charge the battery during the period of time in which this trouble occurred. This was mechanical trouble, and wher the generator was dis-assembled the large bearing disc was found to be between the large bearing and the armature winding. Since this caused the large bearing to be out of position the distance between the two generator bearings was more than had been allowed for. When the generator had been tightened there was a binding effect that caused the generator to loosen up. The large bearing disc should have been between the large bearing and the gear. When the disc was removed and assembled in the proper place the -trouble disappeared.
