SUBURBS FOOTBALLERS’ EIGHTH FUNCTION' It required no whistle to set members i and their friends in motion at the \ eighth annual ball of the Suburbs ! Football Club held in the main -Avon- j dale Town Hall last evening. Nor was there any necessity for a referee to see that full justice was done to the excellent conditions offering. Some SO couples danced from S p.m. to 1 a.m. There were no wallflowers—the secretary and M.C., Mr. Geo. Orrell, assisted by Mr. J. Crum, saw to that. The music of Partridge’s Orchestra was also a strong factor in keeping the big throng on its feet. The hall, prettily decorated with the club’s colours, blended well with the smart dresses worn by the young people present. Supper, provided by Mrs. Grey, was the tinal item to the “best try” scored by the club to date. Among those present were: Miss E. Peterson, moonlight blue crepe de chine. Miss M. PAPATOETOE BENEVOLENT SOCIETY FIRST GENERAL MEETING The first general meeting of the Papatoetoe Benevolent Society was held in St. John’s School Hall, Papatoetoe, last evening, when Mrs- Bradstreet presided over a fair attendance of members. It was reported that the society had a membership of 54, and those present were urged to secure an increase on the roll. A number of offers had been received from various sources to provide entertainments to help the securing of funds, and arrangements are in hand to organise concerts which will be presented at an early date. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. Bradstreet; secretary, and assistant treasurer, Mrs. Wright; treasurer, Mrt C. Shore; management committee, Mesdames George Foster, W. Brown, King, J. Bryant, Bradstreet, Wright, Messrs. J. Franklin, A. F. Meikle. P. Pennell, Revs. T. H. Roseveare, P. C. Davis and F- Greenwood. A sub-committee was also formed to deal with urgent cases of hardship.
