DEFECTIVE WHEEL ENDS THIEVES’ JAUNT
TWO CARS STOLEN The “joyriders” who stole Mr. T. McKay’s motor-car from Quay Street yesterday afternoon got as far as Westfield with it. On the way out they changed a wheel because of a punctured tyre, but the “spare” was not a good fit, and as soon as the car ran off the concrete the journey ended. The “joyriders” had travelled some distance with the wheel out of alignment. Mr. McKay, who lives at 1*36 New North Road, recovered his car last evening. The thieves nad lost the wheel which they had replaced with the spare. Mr. McKay said this morning that he left his car in Quay Street yesterday afternoon, and was only away from it for about ten minutes. The thieves must have seen him leave his car and taken it almost immediately. An Oakland car belonging to Mr. S. J. Soman of 29 Brixton Road, was taken from West Street, Newton, last evening between 6.45 o’clock and 8.30. It is a light blue in colour and bears the number 2-040.
