NO SIGN OF SPEEDWELL

TUTANEKAI’S SEARCH Tko master of the Government steamer Tutanekai, which arrived at Onehunga on Saturday, after 12 days on the northern coast, searching for the missing launch Speedwell, reports that a close search was made from the Great Barrier to the Bay of Islands during the rounds of the lighthouses. It was his opinion that the Speedwell had foundered near Elizabeth Reef or Wide Berth Island, about halfway between Whangarei and Cape Brett. There was a treacherous bottom close inshore on this part of the coast, and it was possible the launch had struck and filled.
