WHERE IS MASSEY?
POWER BOARD MEMBER DID NOT KNOW SETTLERS OBJECT TO LOAN Where “Massey” was, Mr. J. W. Hayden admitted he did not know until the settlers there wrote the Waitemata Power Board protesting against the proposed loan of £BO,OOO. Now the settlement will be included in the itinerary of the members addressing the ratepayers in favour of the loan. The complaint of the Massey and Birdwood Settlers’ Association before the board this morning was that it understood that the initial loan of £200,000 would complete the board’s reticulation, but it had not done so, and the result had been that the boroughs, town districts and centres of population had been provided with current on a large percentage of county security, and a large portion of the county district had no chance whatever of getting current. “We wish to express our disappointment with the position that has arisen and to say that we do not favour the proposed additional loan of £80,000,” concluded the letter. The board felt that it could better explain the position by addressing a meeting of the settlers.
