POWER BOAT PROGRESS

YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED Steady progress is the keynote of the report to be presented at the 22nd annual meeting of the New Zealand Power Boat Association on October 26. At the commencement of last season the number of races cruisers was reduced. More comprehensive programmes for fast cruisers, speed boats and also for outboard motor-boats were provided. Three afternoons were devoted to. such races, the first being given over to the selection of the Auckland team to compete ror the Mas port Cup at Wanganui. The 1927 race was won by J. and J., o Wanganui, Fleetwing Junior, Auckland’s representative, being runner-up. Fleetwing Junior won the Auckland Pronvincal championship from Miss X. The association wished to congratulate the Wanganui Power Boat and Sailing Club on having captured the New Zealand speed boat championship for the second time In succession. To encourage outboard motor-boat racing the association set up a sub-com-mittee which organised half a dozen races during the season. Nineteen new members were elected during: the season and it is noteworthy that every speed boat owner on the Waitemata is a member of the association. The annual picnic, held at Pine Island, was an outstanding success, sixteen craft taking' part. It was desired to thank the Auckland Harbour Board and Captain H. H. Sargeant for assistance received on many occasions. The death of one of the foundation members, Mr. Walter Bailey, was recorded with regret, and also that of Mr. F. Stevens. The executive expressed gratification with the financial position of the association. This was due to the careful manner in which the funds were administered by Mr. A. M. Wilson, honorary treasurer for many years. The balance sheet shows assets £1,139 and liabilities £246.
