LADY BRUNTON DEAD
ILLNESS ON AORANGI EX-MAYORESS OF MELBOURNE The death occurred yeterday morning at a private hospital of Lady Brunton, wife of Sir William Brunton, exLord Mayor of Melbourne. With her husband. Lady Brunton was returning to Melbourne from a trip to Europe and America. They were passengers on the Aorangi, which arrived at Auckland from Vancouver last Monday morning. Lady Brunton became ill on the voyage to Auckland and as soon as the ship berthed she was removed to a private hospital. An operation was performed and Lady Brunton rallied, but a rei lapse followed. She became worse and ' died yesterday morning. Sir William Brunton stayed in Auckland to be near his wife during her illness. { The late Lady Brunton was a very popular figure in Melbourne, where sh~ : had many friends. Sir William Brunton is one of the outstanding figures in Melbourne municipal and business circles. He has been a member of the Melbourne City Council since 1913. and was Lord Mayor of the city from 1923 to 1926. He is also managing director of Currie and Richards, of Melbourne. Sir William was knighted in 1926.
